Superhero {almost wordless wednesday}

My boy, my surprise, my heartbreak, my hero… with the scars to prove it.

Some parents wish for either a ‘pink or blue’ baby, but we allĀ assumeĀ our new baby will be healthy, just like the rest of the family. We got a blue baby with a little something extra… I didn’t think that ‘something extra’ was special or exciting. Oh how wrong was I.

Jahkai’s extra chromosomeĀ has brought me manyĀ things I would never have had in my life if it weren’tĀ for that surprise!

He has brought me love and protection I never knew existed.

He has brought me a sense of peace with the world.

He has made me grow and learn to be unselfish.

He has made me look at people around me with a open mind, and I have gained a massive amount of respect for parents with children who are so called ‘different’.

For a long time I thought ‘why me’ but now I think I am the lucky one. I don’t need to win the lotto…I already have.

Thank you,Ā Jahkai, for picking me. Thank you for taking the old selfish me on a ride through this life I’m so grateful for. And, most of all, thank you for being my HERO xx

Today’s photographs have been shot by Karlea, beloved wife and (very busy) Mum to three girls and two boys, including Jahkai who has Trisomy 21. The gorgeous Kai and his family have faced a number of serious health challenges in his life so far, but they face each day with tenacity and fierce, boundless love. Karlea often credits Kai for inspiring her to pursue her photography dream. You can connect with Karlea and book photo shoots viaĀ Facebook at Karlea Lynn Photography.
